
The Decanter World Wine Awards 2009 have awarded Pagos de Viña Real 2002 with the highest internationational trophy, Red Spanish Varietal Over £10 and the egional trophy, Best Red Rioja Over £10 Trophy. A total of approximately 400 wines of Spain have been tasted, but Pagos de Viña Real 2002 has stand out over all of them.
The vintage 2002 is the second vintage of Pagos de Viña Real in the market. This wine was first produced with the vintage 2001 and first in the market in 2004. Pagos de Viña Real, was the first wine to be produced and bottled in the new winery Viña Real in Rioja Alavesa, Spain.
The 2009 Decanter World Wine Awards attracted more entries this year than any other wine competition in the world, cementing its position as the world's biggest wine competition. In total 10,285 wines were entered, more than double the amount when the competition launched six years ago. The number of companies submitting wines increased by 23% to 2,240.
The prize giving will take place on September 2009 in the UK.
Four more wines of CVNE have also received a trophy, three bronce medals for: Viña Real Gran Reserva 1999, Imperial Reserva 2004 and Contino Reserva 2005 and Cuen Crianza 2006 Commended.
